THE MODERN CHALLENGES OF THE PANDEMIC TOURISM IN THE SECTOR AND WAYS TO SOLVE IT

Summary 

Despite the successful development of one of the most important sectors of the economy - tourism in recent decades, the sector at the same time is quite dependent on disasters and risks of various diseases, e.g. such as pandemic threats. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization announced the release of a new coronavirus COVID-19 as a pandemic. In 4-5 months, more than 5,5 million people around the world became infected and more than 4,5 thousand died (these figures change daily in the face of a raging pandemic). The virus has spread to about 210 countries. The current pandemic has had a negative impact on the economic development of countries and has also paralyzed the entire world. It has affected all sectors of the economy. But the biggest blow it dealt to tourism was from the very first day of its visit. The paper discusses the economic shock that accompanies coronavirus, which is quite strange and at the same time has a negative impact on both the supply and demand side of the sector. All this has posed a serious challenge to the tourism sector: the sector has been paralyzed, jobs have been reduced, quarantine and so on. The article analyzed the state of the sector in the world and in Georgia in the context of pandemic and also some economic aspects of post pandemic period and the ways to solve them.
